Statutory break rules: the early-warning system and the rest-period check

Break entitlement, maximum working time and rest periods are regulated differently in each country. Jobilino ships the provisions for Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy, resolves them per employee via the contract country, and warns before a limit is reached. This article shows the stored values, how to override them, and what blocking an early clock-in actually means.

Frequently asked questions

Does the early-warning system block clocking?

No, never. It sends a push notification to the person concerned before a limit is reached – clocking continues without restriction. Only the rest-period check can block, and even that only affects clocking in.

Which country is an employee assessed by?

By the country in their contract, not by the location of the company. A fitter employed in Austria working on a German site is assessed by the Austrian values. Without a contract country, your configured default country applies; without that, the German values.

Are the values shipped legally binding?

No, they are defaults based on the respective working-time acts – not legal advice. Collective and sector agreements are frequently stricter. Check the values against your agreements and override them where your company differs.

Why does Austria show 10 hours when 12 are permitted?

Because Jobilino deliberately presets the more cautious value. The AZG has permitted a daily working time of up to 12 hours since 2018 – where that is permissible for you, enter the higher value as an override.

Is a stamp shortly after finishing blocked?

No. Clocking in again on the same day never counts as a rest violation – that covers split shifts, clocking out at lunch and an accidentally picked “end of work”. The rest period applies between working days.

What if work was done despite too short a rest?

Add the time manually. Manual entries are never blocked; the approval decides on them. The refused clock-in itself stores nothing, but is recorded and can be researched later.
